Responsibilities
- Analyse agricultural landscapes and spatial trends under chosen jurisdictions together with earth observation engineers
- Conduct baseline and project feasibility studies on select landscapes
- Steer potential soil studies and soil testing through the course of project development and implementation
- Lead the design and monitoring of earthworks, cropping, harvesting, and residual management in a movement towards climate-smart practices
- Lead the planning and development of nurseries and seed production
- Perform statistical analysis on farm data and model crop growth and yield using peer-reviewed methods and tools
- Steer evaluation, documentation, and development of potential market value chains originating from project areas
- Support project development manager(s) in developing project documents compliant to certification standards and programs
Requirements
- Deep understanding of agricultural ecosystems in tropical and sub-tropical climatic zones
- Over five years of experience in designing, developing, and managing regenerative or climate-smart projects in agriculture and land-use sector with the potential to show samples of work done
- Willingness to live and work in Berlin
- Willingness to travel overseas for work, especially to sub–Saharan Africa
- Openness and adaptability to the atmosphere at a start-up
- Professional references
- In addition to English fluency, languages desired are French, Portuguese, and/or Spanish
- Education in agricultural science is desirable
- Knowledge of relevant scientific tools and methods is desirable
- Knowledge of one or more agricultural commodity value chains is a plus
- Knowledge of national regulations and policies regarding agriculture in sub-Saharan African countries is a plus
