About KAYA

KAYA is a new organisation coming to life in Q1 2023. It is being co-founded by purpose-driven professionals with different cultural backgrounds and with several years of experience in nature conservation, clean energy, rural development, real estate, and e-commerce. KAYA’s vision is to mitigate climate change by working with nature. In doing so, it also aspires to support the impacted communities and societies in accessing new livelihoods and becoming more resilient. KAYA’s mission is to develop multi-year landscape-scale conservation and restoration projects in terrestrial ecosystems. It will bring the developed projects upon maturity to the market for payments for their ecosystem services.

About this role

People & Culture Manager at KAYA will be responsible for the staff and resource topics.  As a person, they should be a leader who will shape the organisation together with the Co-founders.  At the same time, they should be an empathetic person to develop congruous teams and growth paths for individuals.  They will manage the popular human resource administrative topics.  It is in the start-up phase, that the People & Culture Manager is expected to shoulder management of office operations, a responsibility that will be transferred eventually.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the recruitment and on-boarding process
  • Steer the development of the organisation culture in close cooperation with the leadership team
  • Steer the learning and development program for the employees as well as the institution in close cooperation with the leadership team
  • Steer the periodic employee review and appraisal processes in close cooperation with the leadership team
  • Lead the payroll, leave, sabbatical and other human resource-related administrative processes
  • Steer the physical and digital knowledge and information management in the organisation
  • Manage the office operations including material inventory, maintenance of the premises, and related financial transactions
  • Steer dialogue and exchange between the Head Office and HR teams in the Project Country Offices

Requirements

  • Over three years of experience in leading the abovementioned people and culture processes with the potential to show samples of work done
  • Expertise in German labour laws
  • Willingness to live and work in Berlin
  • Willingness to commit to a full-time (40-hours) role
  • Willingness to travel overseas for work, especially to sub–Saharan Africa
  • Openness to co-creating structures, processes and culture at a start-up while being patient through the developmental phase
  • Possibility to contact former employers
  • In addition to English and German fluency, knowledge of French, Portuguese, and/or Spanish is a plus
  • Education in human resource management or social science is desirable
  • Knowledge of climate protection and landscape restoration is a plus
