Biogas

Biogas

Though it might be difficult to imagine in today’s day and age, hundreds of millions of people still cook using firewood, and as a result millions of trees are cut for fuel every day.

Luckily for the people and the forests, however, there are alternatives. With the use of compost and very simple equipment, we at KAYA are helping communities cook faster and cleaner than ever before.

Zero hunger

Compost majorly increases agricultural productivity. Its properties as an excellent fertilizer strongly promotes sustainability and natural prosperity.

Affordable and clean energy

Biofuel is a low cost and green energy source, requiring very little maintenance, and producing a proportionately high amount of energy

Responsible consumption and production

Replaces the need for burning wood ensures lower CO2 emissions and disposing of waste in a responsible manner means less trash and space spent storing it

The Process

Inserting Organic Waste

The process starts by putting disposed organic waste into our provided Biogas container.

Let the magic happen

The waste in the digester slowly separates into fractions of gas and fertilizer, where if left outside it would have become methane and CO2.

Cooking and Fertilizing

The gas is then used for cooking and the solid fertilizer for growing new trees.

Related FAQ

Here you can find answers for the most common questions about our Biogas projects:

Biogas is produced by the anaerobic decomposition and fermentation of organic materials (plant and animal products). When placed in a Biodigester, these organic materials are broken down by microorganisms which convert them into three main byproducts.

1 - Gas to be used in cooking or heating

2 - Solid residue, a powerful fertilizer

3 - Liquid residue, also a powerful fertilizer

How do biogas cook stoves work?

Biogas cook stoves are relatively similar to regular gas stoves, with the only difference being the source of gas.

Gas from the biodigester is piped into the house to fuel the stove there, while secondary products of Biogas production are used as fertilizers.

Stored Biogas is a renewable and clean source of baseload power, boasting many advantages over fossil fuels like natural gas or coal.

Biogas is not only completely safe, but also one of the most ecofriendly cooking and heating methods known to man.

Biogas helps decrease the demand for coal or fossil fuel energy sources, which in turn contributes to a reducation of deforestation and GHG emissions.

Not only this, but its production enables the reuse and disposal of otherwise cumbersome and useless waste, reducing the energy and space otherwise required to store it.

Each project that KAYA develops brings powerful benefits to local communities. In supporting KAYA, you are simultaneously helping them with necessities like clean water, education, and healthcare.
